CMCA
Children’s Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA) is a pioneering non-profit organization in India, dedicated to transforming young Indians into conscientious, thoughtful, and actively responsible citizens. Founded 20 years ago, CMCA’s mission is to foster an inclusive and sustainable India by engaging young people in educational institutions and communities through experiential programs that teach citizenship values and life skills.
In 2010, Sir Gangadharrao Chitnavis Trust initiated CMCA’s activities in Nagpur, starting with three schools. Since then, Sir G.C. Trust- CMCA has expanded its reach and now engages approximately 1,000 students in grades 7 and 8 across nine schools with our team of 26 enthusiastic volunteers, who conduct weekly sessions covering a range of crucial topics throughout the year. Change and Development, Health and Hygiene, Child Rights, Local Government, Gender Equality etc.
The sessions are designed to be highly interactive and activity-based, ensuring that students are actively engaged in the learning process, and more importantly, enjoy learning. In addition to weekly sessions, Sir G.C. Trust- CMCA organizes various campaigns and workshops to further instill civic and environmental responsibility among students. Some notable initiatives include:
- Eco-friendly Ganesha Idol Making Workshops
- Waste Segregation Sessions
- Cleanliness Drives
- E-Waste Collection Drives
Through its year-long intervention, Sir G.C. Trust- CMCA aims to cultivate students who are not only aware of their civic duties but also actively participate in solving societal issues. The program’s ultimate goal is to nurture civic-minded and environmentally conscious future citizens who contribute positively to society.
By making citizenship education a part of educational policies and practices, Sir G.C. Trust- CMCA strives to make a long-lasting impact on the nation’s future, ensuring that young Indians are equipped with the values and skills necessary to build a better, more inclusive, and sustainable India.
